Directories light as a feather: the LDAP protocol
Netwerkdatabases come in shapes and sizes. Sun introduces NIS and the RPC portmapper many years ago, Novell introduces Netware, the IETF defined DNS and DHCP, and so on. Slowly but surely, a standard protocol emerges that can create order in this chaotic world, namely the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol.
